The outside lecture – Applied Optics is offered in Physics Department and it makes me open my mind. I found that is much more different from the classes in the language center. As I noticed, not only the subject is difficult, but also the types of students are different including the range of students’ age or the number of students.
First of all, this class is opening by discussing their assignment, but most of my classes in the language center would start from calling our names to make sure attendants. As a result, the way to warm up the class is more fun to me. Because it can refresh students’ mind, it may recall some memories from the last class.
Next, they don’t put their textbooks on the desk, but in the class in the language center we should bring our textbooks with us all the time.

Some of the students put a laptop in front of them, and others write down the note on their notebooks. Therefore, they don’t need to spend time finding the subject in the textbook, so they can focus on professor’s file that shows on the screen.
If you can pay attention to the professor’s lecture, then you can get all information to put into your mind. The note has already written on the website.

For example, we know that the speed multiplied by the driving time equals the distance of your travel, and therefore we have the wave equation as follow:
Maybe you will come out a question what relationship this is about the Applied Optics. For instance, when you drive a car on the way home, you see a light in front of you opposite on the road, and you may guess it is a motorcycle coming to you. While it goes by, you see a car with two headlights not a motorcycle. As a result, we can estimate the distance of the light to tell people whether it is a car or motorcycle. Now you may think how interesting you can learn in this class.
Finally this class is about Applied Optics; consequently, the professor introduces the Wave Equation by giving some examples and talking about the subjects. The instructor will ask some questions to make sure the student understand the theme. In the end he told us what kind of equipment uses this function. It’s not a boring theory because it can be applied to the machine that you may need or use everyday.
The overall of this class reminds me some knowledge in Optics that I had learned several years ago, and I enjoy the 2 hours class in Physics Department. I may go to the website to print out those notes and refresh my information before I attend another class of Applied Physics.
